We offer two services: 9AM and 10:30AM. During the summer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day) we offer one service at 9:30AM.
Childcare is available for children 3 years old and younger, and Sunday school is available for 4 year olds to rising 5th graders.
Details You Need To Know
Our 9:00AM and 10:30AM services (9:30AM only Memorial to Labor Day) combine both traditional and contemporary forms of worship and music. Sunday School for children is offered at both times. Children normally attend the opening part of the worship service with their parents and are dismissed for Sunday school following “First Steps,” a message delivered just for them on the front steps of the chancel. Adult Education opportunities are offered at 10:15AM.
We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month, as well as throughout the year in special seasonal services, such as Thanksgiving or Maundy Thursday. We practice Open Communion: anyone wishing to know the presence of Christ is welcome, regardless of church background or membership. Our communion bread is now gluten free.
Fellowship, complete with coffee and refreshments, follows each worship service in the Light Court of the Education building (and outside in the summer months).
Information For The Hearing Impaired
For those with a hearing impairment, First Congregational Church of Western Springs has a hearing loop system in the Church Sanctuary so you will never miss a moment of Sunday service. If you have a T-Coil friendly hearing aid, enable the T Switch functionality. The sound from the service will be transmitted to your hearing aid. Also, hearing devices are offered for those needing assistance. Ask an usher to help you when you arrive. If you prefer to use one of our hand-held FM hearing devices, please ask an usher for assistance.
Recordings of our worship services are available on loan from the Kemper Library. If you miss a service or would like to share a recording with a friend, you’re welcome to borrow the CD from the library. Our sermons can also be found online under News.
Children begin in worship and are excused following First Steps, the children’s lesson.
Child and Infant Care offered throughout the morning in Room 108 for children 3 years old and younger.
Adult Christian Exploration (ACE) Hour
Sunday morning adult education programs take place in the Seim Room, beginning at 10:15AM on certain Sundays. Advanced sign-up or consecutive attendance is not required. Simply grab a cup of coffee and join us on the second floor of the Education Bldg. See the ACE Program under Latest News/Upcoming Events for dates and program descriptions.
Reflective Chapel Gathering Services
In an effort to create new avenues to explore and deepen our spirituality together, we offer Reflective services on specific Sundays in the Chapel at 8AM (schedule listed here). They are 45 minutes, and offer wisdom, silence, reflection, and optional sharing; it is an opportunity to slow down, be quiet, and reflect. All are invited to attend whenever your schedule allows.
Our elevator is located at the north end of the Education Building and will take you to the second floor (Seim Room, Plymouth Hall and other widely used rooms).
